2 HURRICANE MITCH Hurricane Mitch reached level 5 on the hurricane scale. It left the most flooding in Honduras in the 20th century. The President of Honduras estimated that Mitch set back 50 years of economic development. The storm wrecked about 35,000 houses and damaged another 50,000, leaving up to 1.5 million people homeless, or about 20% of the country's population. Mitch directly caused $2.005 billion in damage, with an additional $1.8 billion in indirect costs. Ruined building that were over 350 years old. Washed away the countries crops and there was no food to eat.

3 HELPING HONDURAS KIDS (HHK) Helping Honduras Kids (HHK) is a non- profit organization that manages a Children's Home (orphanage), caring for 28 children who have been abandoned, abused and/or neglected on the North Coast of HONDURAS, in La Ceiba. We are looking for sponsors who will help support these children.

4 THEIR MISSION AND BELIEFS To improve the level of dignity, education, opportunity and health for orphaned, abandoned, abused, and/or neglected and special needs children, single mothers and families on the north coast of Honduras. They believe in the one true and living God, in Jesus Christ, His Son and Savior, and the Holy Spirit, coupled with our belief that opportunity, education, hope and love are what children need to break the cycle of poverty, inspire and motivate us to help as many children as possible.

Honduras also has the world’s highest murder rate. There are about 85 homicides per 100,000 inhabitants, largely due to gangs and drug trafficking.
