3 Arachnid Characteristics Have 2 segments-a head/chest section and an abdomen Have 8 legs Almost all are carnivorous, they feed on the pre- digested bodies of insects and other small animals Several groups are venomous - they secrete venom from specialized glands to kill prey or enemies. Some are parasites, which can be carriers of disease

4 Web Spinning Spiders have silk spinning glands called spinnerets, at the tip of their abdomen Not all arachnids spin webs. Webs get dirty and torn, so lots of spiders make a new one every day. They don't waste the old one, though--they roll it up into a ball and eat it!
