Benefits of Service Learning Involvement in community Becoming a role model to those younger than I in the community Increased sense of self-efficacy as young people learn that they can impact real social challenges, problems, and needs. Higher academic achievement and interest in furthering their education. Enhanced problem-solving skills, ability to work in teams, and planning abilities. Enhanced civic engagement attitudes, skills and behaviors. Many leaders in public service today speak about how they were nurtured, inspired, and shaped in early experiences in community service or volunteering.

Blazer Build Help construct the roof of homes in Lowndes County. Helped place windows in new homes. Helped clean up the community.

Effects of participating in service learning had on myself Participating in the Blazer build showed me that we (Valdosta State football) are significant leaders in the community.

Not only does the youth of the community look up to us but also the community as a whole

Building those homes for under privileged families really made me understand my role in the community and how much everyone looks to us for leadership and to set a prime example of how to act within society.
