3 Aim of the school Introduce the basics of Trigger and Data acquisition – Simple systems as building blocks for complex systems Expose the students to a maximum variety of topics – Being compatible with the available time Show how the “real world” works – Through hands-on practical experience TDAQ examples from small and large experiments – How to build TDAQ architectures – Using the building blocks to build and scale systems

4 Plan of the school Time dedicated to – Theoretical lectures (~50%) – Lab exercises (~50%)

5 Preliminary material We sent preliminary material – Including exercises to be complete Main ideas: – Insure a minimal common programming background – Ask for a precise programming style » C is not C++ » Procedural is not OO » … – Do not mask HW behavior – Only ~3/4 returned With very inhomogeneous results – Exercises will be discussed in the afternoon Please complete them if you did not!!!

6 What and where Lectures will be in Aula Conversi – With the exception of Friday 11 th (Aula 6, new building) Labs will be – In the didactic lab on the 1 st floor – In the Atlas lab on the 3 rd floor Pre-school exercises – Will be discussed in the informatics lab New building, this afternoon Lunches and coffee breaks in the morning – Will be served in front of Aula Conversi – For the afternoon break Coffee machines are available on the 1 st floor

7 Practical information Registration – In “Aula Direzione INFN” 2 nd floor, this building Follow the arrows… – Please register ASAP During coffee-breaks or lunch If you have some spare time in the afternoon

8 How to find your lab You are divided in groups of 4 – Groups are shown in this room – Groups rotate through the exercises Each exercise lasts 2 hours A “Sudoku” time table is shown in this room – And in all the labs Each of you has a time table for his/her group – Find the exercise number for a given time – Exercise locations are: 1 st floor this building: 3 rd floor this building: – The exercise number is shown at the table A tutor will be waiting for you

11 Material and documentation In your envelope you will find: – The school program – The lab program for your group Our indico page contains all the presentations – Will also contain the video of the lectures Please take the lab book (1 copy each) – It contains all the documentation for labs – Some additional material is also distributed

12 At the end you will get An evaluation form A training certificate – Only if you did exercises!

13 School dinner Social dinner will be on Tuesday 15 th – At the restaurant “La Pantera Rosa” Can be reached on foot

14 On Sunday Sunday is free – No activity is organized – Be free to visit and enjoy the city as you want – We are eager to give suggestions… Museums Walks Historical places
