1 Major Academic Plan (MAP) Why study computing? What aspect of modern life has not been affected by computing technologies? Personal computers, game machines, routers, laptops, tablets, smart phones, and wearable electronics have certainly changed the landscape of daily life, but older technologies that we take for granted are also now controlled by software. Automobiles, airplanes, televisions, scientific instruments, medical devices, printers, furnaces, washing machines, ovens, refrigerators, smart homes,... the list of programmed devices goes on and on. The software applications that run all of these technologies were developed by people like you. An educational foundation in computing will open up many fields in which you can help make the world a better place using your imagination, interest and passion. It's also an excellent financial choice. Current demand for college graduates in computing is far outstripping the supply, resulting in what are consistently amongst the highest starting salaries for new college graduates. Foundations Option The Bachelor of Arts degree in Computer Science–Foundations Option provides a solid foundation in the practice of computing, while allowing you to expand your education with coursework in other disciplines. The program will prepare you for a career in software development, and is of particular interest if you wish to pursue interdisciplinary applications of computing that are not covered by any of our other degrees.
