NEWSLETTER Ms. Campbell Ms. Holt Ms. Harper Spelling / Vocabulary This week’s spelling and vocabulary words are from neither workbook. They are Part 2 of 3 lessons on Homophones. Test Thursday! Reading skills include locating plot and we will review Please remember, students competing for the Newbery Award at the end of the year, need to complete their 10 books by the end of the school day on May 2 nd. Math This week in math we will be striving to finish up our unit on measurement & data. On Monday & Tuesday we will be extending our knowledge of area & perimeter to solve challenging real world problems. On Wednesday we will be interpreting & creating line plots. Thursday we will be solving a variety of problems pertaining to measurement. This will include converting from a larger unit to a smaller unit as well as creating tables to show measurement equivalents. On Monday we will review, with our test on Tuesday. Science Students will continue the study of force and motion, and our 4 th Grade Science KPREP Review. Students will work a flashback lesson daily by reading the lesson review and answering the accompanying questions. Flashbacks will be graded and recorded daily. Study Island Extra Credit is still available, but the deadline is May 13 th ! Social Studies This week in social studies we will be working on "How to cite our sources." Students will practice doing a partial bibliography for their explorer pieces on Monday and Tuesday in computer lab. Towards the end of the week, students will work on a class project which includes building a metropolis/megalopolis from sugar cubes. The 3- D metropolis will include the following pieces, a water source through the town, two transportation systems, factories, several skyscrapers, and a communication system. Students will label the metropolis with urban, suburban, water routes, and highways. All work will be done in class but some students may want to bring items from home to go into their metropolis. Students will also create their own rubric in class for the 3-D project. Inspiration – Exploration – Connection Just a Reminder: 1.Extra Credit! Read All About It! Students will have an opportunity to earn extra credit in Science by working the Study Island Assignment on Physical Science. There are 10 lessons. Points are awarded as follows: * 10 Completed lessons= +15 point * 10 Completed lessons with blue ribbons= +30 points. 2.Accelerated Reader Points! By the end of the third trimester, students will need to earn their 12 AR points. Reports are going home today.
