2 “Texting while driving is the act of composing, sending, reading text messages, email, or making other similar use of the web on a mobile phone while operating a motor vehicle. The practice has been viewed by many people and authorities as dangerous. ”

3 Statistics O 1.6 million crashes are caused by cell phones per year O Texting while driving cause ¼ of all car accidents today O Majority involves teens O Highest crash rates are caused by 16 year olds than any other age

4 O Has a risk of crashing 6x’s more likely than people driving intoxicated O It is equivalent to driving after in taking 4 beers

5 O Leads to a 400% increase with eyes off the road O 5 seconds of texting is equivalent to driving the length of a football field (100 yards) O Slows brake reaction speed by 18% O Slows a young driver’s reaction time down to that of a 70-year-old

6 O 800,000 people currently at any time given, Text While Driving across the country O 56% of teens said they talk on the phone while driving O 46% of drivers under 18 admit to texting while driving.
