Written in your own words and all work cited properly
Show a clear understanding of the plot, theme and characters of the book
Clearly and effectively address the project description
Few, if any, errors in grammar, spelling and writing mechanics

4. Choose a Project

5. NEW MOVIE
Lions Gate is going to remake the 1983 Outsiders movie. A movie producer has asked you to suggest new actors for the rolls – Ponyboy, Darry, Sodapop, Dally, Johnny, Two-Bit, Steve, Cherry, Bob and Randy. Explain which actor should play which character and why that actor would be a good fit for that character. Include physical characteristics and personality characteristics in your explanation. Explain 3 key scenes that need to be included in the movie that were omitted from the original 1983 movie and why they are important to the plot.

6. Found Diary A diary of one of the main characters was recently found.
(Ponyboy, Sodapop, Darry, Johnny, Dallas, Cherry)
Write out 5 diary entries of what he/she might have said in the diary.
Include thoughts and feelings about the main events from the book. Use phrases and language from the time period.
Minimum of 5 detailed diary entries. Each entry needs to be 1 page hand-written or half-page typed.

7. COMIC BOOK
Marvel Comics is thinking about turning the book, “The Outsiders,” into a comic book. They have asked you to make a test chapter. Pick a chapter from the book and turn it into a detailed comic book. Remember that in comic books, character emotions and feelings are often shown through body language. Include dialogue between characters.

8. INTERVIEW
People Magazine has asked you to interview one of the main characters from the book: Ponyboy, Darry, Sodapop, Dally, Johnny, Two-Bit, Steve, Cherry, Bob, Randy. In your interview, ask open-ended questions that require thought and detailed responses. You must have a minimum of 10 interesting, thought-provoking questions and responses.

9. Engineer a Solution
Choose a problem from the book. Engineer a solution to the problem. Describe what you would build using diagrams and a minimum 10 sentences paragraph that describes the problem, your solution and why your solution is a good choice. Either make the object or make a model of the object.

10. Rewrite a Scene
Viking Press has decided to publish a scene from the book from another character’s point of view. They have asked you to write the new scene. Write the scene and include important details, feelings and insight the character would have in the scene.

11. Newspaper Articles
The local newspaper has asked you to report on the events from the book. They need you to write a breaking news headline (a significant event), 2 articles around 300 words each or 3 articles around 200 words each, and include at least 3 images. The articles can be local news (description of events that occur), feature articles (profile of a person/ character), expose (exposing a problem), etc.

12. Movie Trailer
Sony Pictures has hired you to create a trailer for a new movie they are making. Create a trailer that includes a hook, characters, setting, and a hint at the major problem/challenges the characters’ face in the book. Make sure to include sound and use an appropriate genre that matches the book’s theme and mood.

13. Podcast
NPR has a Podcast competition that with a $10,000 award for first place.
Create a podcast based on one – two chapters in the book. Include sound effects, background music, and character voices (change your voice for each character).
