Hold On -Good Charlotte This world, this world is cold, But you don’t, you don’t have to go You’re feeling sad, you’re feeling lonely, And no one seems to care You’re mother’s gone and your father hits you, This pain you cannot bare But we all bleed the same as you do, We all have the same things to go through Hold on…if you feel like letting go, Hold on…it gets better than you know You days, you say they’re way too long, And your nights, you can’t sleep at all Hold On And your not sure what your looking for but you don’t want to know more And your not sure what your waiting for but you don’t want to know more Hold on…if you feel like letting go, Hold on…it gets better than you know Don’t stop looking you’re one step closer, Don’t stop searching it’s not over…hold on What are you looking for? What are you waiting for? Do you know what your doing to me? Go ahead…what are you waiting for? Hold on…if you feel like letting go, Hold on…it gets better than you know Don’t stop looking you’re one step closer, Don’t stop searching it’s not over… Hold on…if you feel like letting go, Hold on…it gets better than you know Hold On

The Theme The theme of this poem (or song) is suicide. It is saying that even if you feel like letting go, hold on, look around you, and see what you can have or do. Whatever you’re waiting for, it will come. Whatever your searching for, you will find it. Everyone at some time feels the same way you do, and they are dealing with it. Suicide is not the right way to deal with problems, there are many other options available to help.
4
Poetic Devices The poetic devices in this poem are: rhyming repeating a chorus (4 times) repeating two words (Hold On) throughout the lyrics

Why? I like this song because I think that being a teenager can be one of the hardest times in a person’s life. I’m not saying that adults don’t commit suicide, but teenagers are the largest group of suicide committers. Everything you do can affect your adult life. You are in school, learning things that will put you through life. Sometimes there are just so many things going on, and you don’t know what to do. When people commit suicide, others may think they were crazy, and yet those other people may find themselves thinking about suicide themselves. People need to find more alternatives of suicide, either it be talking to a parent, or even a doctor. Suicide needs to be stopped.

5 Questions 1.If you were writing this song, would you chose to write “Hold On” throughout the poem, to be there as a ‘reminder’? 2.If you wrote this piece, would keep it as a song, or ‘re-invent’ it as a poem, in a book? 3.Throughout the song, the words “Hold On” are found. Why would the author chose to do that? 4.How do you interpret this song? 5.If you were the author of this piece, would you chose to repeat certain words, such as “This world, this world…” or “But you don’t, you don’t…”?
