Nature of Work While veterinary technicians perform tasks such as administering medication and preparing animals for surgery, veterinary assistants fill a different but equally vital role in the veterinarian's office. They support animal doctors and technicians in their daily tasks by cleaning and maintaining equipment, feeding, exercising and grooming patients, preparing and sanitizing surgery suites, restraining and handling patients, and clerical and administrative work.

Degree/Schooling/Training Needed Associate's degree in veterinary technology

Qualifications Patience and the ability to maintain calm are essential as the animals coming to the facility might be scared, stressed or in pain, which can result in erratic or aggressive behavior.

Job Outlook According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment for veterinary assistants is expected to grow at a rate of 14% from 2010 to 2020, closely matching the overall average rate of job growth. Job Outlook: 30% (Much faster than average) There are 84,800 in America.

Degree/Schooling/Training Needed Requirements vary widely by employer. Many postsecondary and vocational schools offer personal appearance training, and there are a large number of trade schools for cosmetology nationwide. Training programs last nine months on average, and sometimes offer job placement or internship opportunities.

Qualifications Education- Cosmetologists are required to attend cosmetology school. Getting Licensed- Every state's board of cosmetology has a different policy regarding obtaining a license, however the license itself consists of passing an exam. Outgoing Personality- Successful cosmetologists enjoy talking and socializing. Staying Relevant- Cosmetologists combine industry knowledge with creative skills in order to make clients happy.
