7 Goal of GDL The GDL program subjects new drivers to certain conditions and restrictions in an effort to gradually build their experience. The goal of GDL is to protect the lives of new drivers, their passengers and other motorists…

9 GETTING STARTED AT 16 Practice Driving for 6 months Driver with NJ 21 yr. old Follow all rules and laws At 17- ROAD TEST Special Learners Permit Pass Written Test Pass Eye Exam 6 Hours BTW Pay fee and parents sign 17 Provisional License Practice Unsupervised- 1 year Follow Restrictions

10 Basic License Must be at least 16 No Suspensions Pay all fees

11 Exam Permit at 17 If you wait until 17 to get permit Pass written and vision test No BTW training (parents teach you) Practice with NJ licensed adult who is 21 Practice for 6 months unless you are 21 (3) months Provisional for 1 year. Then you can get Basic (would be over 18)

12 Restrictions Can not drive between 11:01 pm- 5:00am May not use cell phone May not use electronic devices With permit, must be with a NJ Driver who has had a license for at least 3 years 1 friend rule Exam permit or Prov. License- No driving between 12:01-5:00am

13 Seat Belt Laws All drivers and passengers must wear safety belts. It is the law and you can get pulled over as a primary offense.

14 Penalty for Restrictions If you do not follow the laws set forth for the GDL, you are subject to a $100.oo fine and possible confiscation of your permit or license.

15 Organ Donation and the NJ Laws New laws pertaining to organ donation have recently been passed by the Senate. You will be given up to date information from teacher at this time. http://www.sharenj.org/
