Social Movements must have… A large number of people. A common goal to promote or prevent social change. A structured organization with commonly recognized leaders. An activity sustained over a relatively long time period.

Revolutionary Movement Attempts to change a society totally. The American Revolution The French Revolution

Reformative Movement Aims to effect more limited changes in a society. Antiwar Movement of the 1960s.

Redemptive Movement Focuses on making a radical change within individuals. Limited in scope, but profound in the degree of change in the individual. AA- Alcoholics Anonymous

Alternative Movement Focused on individual that seeks limited change. “It Can Wait” campaign for texting and driving.
