4 Course Description: Subject overview –The course provides learners with the opportunity to undertake a comprehensive piece of research, while developing critical thinking and integration. While this may represent an academic challenge in the first instance, it will be helpful in refining learner’s understanding of the research process and planning. - Advanced research methods is intended to provide learners with the opportunity to conduct research session in a specific area of their choice and to take a more active role and ownership in the research learning process. The purpose of the management report is to allow the learner to carry out a self-managed piece of work that provides an e4

5 in-depth investigation of a management issue relevant to the learner’s own field of study or particular interest. This course allows the learner to critically evaluate and synthesize relevant philosophies, theories and models of management, by undertaking a process of enquiry, using primary and/or secondary data sources to contribute to the body of knowledge in specific area of Business Administration. The unit consists of five (5) segments, underpinned by a taught/moderated module of research methods as preparation for the planning, developing and producing of the dissertation. All segments of this course will culminate in sample/preliminary research proposal as final paper, which must be accepted by the instructor by end of semester. 5

6 In most cases the learner’s own workplace will prove the subject area or research context. However, where this is not possible the subject of the report may be a host organization or a number of organizations. The final research report/proposal is an individually prepared piece of academic writing, and needs to be of a high standard that emphasizes rigor in research and clarity of thought in interpretation and applications. 6 Teaching and Learning Strategies
