The Importance of Learning Chemistry List the first three things you think of when you hear the word chemistry. List the first three things you think of when you hear the work chemist.
5
The Importance of Learning Chemistry Brainstorm! Why is it important to study chemistry?

What is Chemistry? Chemistry- the science that deals with the materials of the universe and the changes that these materials undergo Macro- large Micro- small
9
Solving Everyday Problems Consider a time when you solved a problem in your life. What was the problem? Explain how you went about solving the problem. Performing Experiment Hypothesis Problem
11
Scientific method- procedure for processing and understanding certain types of information
12
Independent Variable- one thing that the scientist changes in an experiment Dependent Variable- one or more things that change in a science experiment that depend on the independent variable Constant- everything except the independent variable that must remain the same Experiments
13
Theory- a set of tested hypotheses that gives an overall explanation of some part of nature- CAN BE REVISED! Observation- something that is witnessed and can be recorded Natural Law- summary of observed (measurable) behavior A law tells what happens; a theory (model) is our attempt to explain why it happens.
15
Strategies for Learning Chemistry Know the vocabulary Memorizing Trial and Error- Its okay to make mistakes as long as you learn from it! Hands on Labs Review Questions Math Practice
