H stands for environment-friendly Lexus RX 400h

The hybrid decision of Lexus It is a combination ( a hybrid ) of a petrol engine and an electric motor. Lexus Hybrids were designed to provide the long-term benefit of lower smog-forming emissions. In fact, every Lexus Hybrid vehicle has been certified as a Super Ultra-Low Emission Vehicle (SULEV II), meaning they release about 76% fewer smog-forming emissions into the air when compared to similar non-hybrid vehicles offering comparable power (www.lexus.com e.g.).www.lexus.com

Lexus RX 400h and the environment Air pollution by cars is a major cause of damage to the environment. In fact cars and trucks produce more than 30 per cent of the smog on the planet (www.transact.org/nrdc). Driven by the ethical idea of helping the environment, Lexus implemented the hybrid drive in their RX 350 and produced the new environment-friendly RX400h, becoming the first Hybrid driven SUV. Talking in Numbers The new Lexus RX 400h costs $43,480. Its ancestor - the RX 350, which has a petrol engine only, has price of $39,100. Both models are the same, the only difference is in the engine and in the CO2 emissions, which in the 400h are lowered only to 192g/km (www.lexus.com e.g.). This shows that helping saving the environment has its price. The affect of the ethical factor makes the product $4,380 more expensive. The new Lexus RX 400h costs $43,480. Research I’ve asked 20 people, weather they will prefer the cheaper, but more dangerous to the environment RX 300, or the more expensive, but environment friendly RX 400h. I’ve asked 20 people, weather they will prefer the cheaper, but more dangerous to the environment RX 300, or the more expensive, but environment friendly RX 400h. The research shows that half of the people would take the ethical side and would choose the more expensive but environment friendly RX 400h.

Conclusion Ethics has a great affect of the price of a product. In this particular case nearly $5,000. Implementing new technologies, which can help saving the environment may cost much, but on the other hand, by paying this higher price we will know, that we have done the best we could in lowering the emissions and helping the earth.
