Weather Terminology Climate: the average weather of a location Front: The edge or line where 2 air masses meet Humidity: The amount of water vapor in the air Meteorologist: A scientist who studies the atmosphere, weather & climate. Atmosphere: The layer of gas surrounding the Earth.

Water Cycle Terminology Condensation: Process of changing a vapor or gas into water Evaporation: Process of changing water into vapor or gas Precipitation: Process when water (rain), sleet, hail, or snow fall to the ground Water Vapor: Evaporated water

Cloud Terminology Cirrus: High cloud that looks like thin, narrow bands Cumulus: Fluffy clouds with a flat base Stratus: Low clouds, thick dull, and gray Fog: Condensed water vapor near the ground

Precipitation Terminology Snow: Occurs when moist wind reaches a cloud that is cooler than 32˚ F. Hail: Precipitation that ranges in size from a pea to an orange. Rain: Precipitation that falls throughout most of the world Sleet: Formed by the freezing of raindrops Dew: Condensed water on cold surfaces
