2. o Some parts of the EM curriculum benefit from specialist input o Residency leaders feel challenged in giving constructive feedback to speakers from outside departments o Many specialists are contributing their time without contractual requirements or personal benefit background o BUT sometimes specialists have little appreciation for the challenges inherent in EM practice o Presentations may address topics that are relevant to their practice (but outside the scope of EM)

3. o “Consultant Chat” is a novel didactic format for expert consultants that are frequently consulted by the ED o It meets the educational needs of the EM residents without delving into issues outside the scope of EM objectives o Specialists are motivated to share knowledge with our residents that will impact patient care and may even prevent unnecessary phone calls from the ED

4. o Expert consultants are selected by the senior EM residents and invited to come have a “chat” with our residents design o No presentation is prepared o they simply answer questions from our residents o Questions are generally specific, case-based, or pragmatic o How would you expect us to approach “x” presentation? o Under what circumstances would you want to be called in the middle of the night? o What is your biggest “gripe” about things that you have seen from the ED

5. o Greatly fostered collaboration with our specialists from other departments o Informal atmosphere is engaging for all parties o Residents drive the discussion to meet their education needs and derive maximal value from the session impact o Specialists feel honored to be selected by the residents and there is minimal time commitment on their part
