FY14 RCR Exit Interview Summary April 27, 2014
2
Background info Interviewed 16 of 17 RCRs (one didn’t respond) Years on RCT 3 in 2 nd year on RCT 13 in 1 st year on RCT RCRs/region 3 regions with 1 RCR 7 regions with 2 RCRs
3
RCR Workload Hours per week Average of around 5 hours/week 0-5 hours most weeks Up to 10-20 hours before reports and conferences Responsibilities Most RCRs spent time answering questions from section presidents, sending reminders, holding calls, and compiling reports Some RCRs put more time into mentoring sections, including working with CLCC Most RCRs knew that EIN/bylaws/finance/good standing were not current duties, but still got questions from section presidents about them. Some confusion about where to direct EIN/bylaws/finance/good standing question, when change in duties was occurring
4
RCR Workload Workload sharing 2 RCR regions shared workload by a combination of availability and splitting up sections All but one of the 2 RCR regions felt this worked quite well One region had significant problems with workload sharing and communication between both RCRs Was workload reasonable? Most RCRs felt workload was reasonable Several of the 2 RCR regions commented that the position is only manageable with both RCRs Several RCRs commented that they would like to see a shift away from “administrative” work (answering basic questions, compiling reports) to a role focused more on mentoring sections
5
Preparedness for position RCRs with previous experience on RCT felt prepared RCRs who transitioned with predecessor felt prepared RCRs new to RCT who didn’t transition w/ predecessors felt extremely unprepared and confused Feedback on training Would like training earlier on (before new FY begins) Most are looking for more/earlier training on knowledge of SWE, history of SWE, leadership structure and contacts Would like org chart and list of who to contact for different questions (EIN/bylaws/finance/PDG/good standing/etc.) Would like FAQ of common questions from section presidents Need help learning to navigate website and leadership reports Lack of communication with RCR coordinators was frustrating RCRs with strong support from Region Governors/Lt. Governors were more satisfied and less confused RCR Training
6
Feedback on CLI/CLF Only one person adamantly wants CLF back Lots of confusion on CLI – most were expecting it to be SWE training and position-specific training Mixed feedback on leadership training – some found it very useful, some found it redundant with leadership training from their schools Perhaps split out parts of CLI for new vs. experienced leaders? Everyone is happy that feedback has been heard and considered for FY15 CLI RCR Training
7
All RCRs planning to continue SWE membership Plans for leadership involvement vary Just being a member Continuing on RCT Collegiate section leadership Professional section leadership Joining CLCC Committee member Committee chair Not yet sure but some kind of leadership role Future SWE Plans
8
Most RCRs thanked us for listening to their feedback and acting on it Most RCRs would like to work more closely with SWEFLs and are looking forward to changes for FY15 SWEFL program Other Comments
