2 Your & You’re  The quality of your homework is exceptional.  Definition: Something that belong to you  I know you’re going to do well on your homework assignment.  You’re is a contraction for “you are”. To contract is to squeeze together.

3 There, Their, & They’re  The park is located over there.  Definition: a direction  The parents will take their kids to the park.  Definition: belonging to or associated with.  They’re going to the park today.  A contraction for “they are”

4 Accept & Except  I accept the terms of the agreement.  Definition: to receive  I agree with all terms of the agreement except one.  Definition: to exclude

5 Allusion & Illusion  The professor made an allusion to Shakespeare's plays.  Definition: an indirect message  A mirage is an illusion one typically sees in the desert.  Definition: A false perception of reality

6 Capital & Capitol  The capital of Alabama is Montgomery.  The firm had a enough capital to purchase the new property.  Definition: seat of government, financial resources  President Obama made an appearance on Capitol Hill today to urge Senate Democrats to comprise.  Definition: the actual building in which the legislative body meets

7 Cite, Sight, & Site  Don’t forget to cite any thoughts or ideas that you’re not responsible for in your paper.  Definition: to quote or document  The sight of the sunset is the most beautiful moment of the day.  Definition: vision  The site of the new Whole Foods Store is in the McGregor Park shopping center.  Definition: a position or place

8 Compliment & Complement  The professor complimented John on his writing skills.  Definition: to praise  A glass of red wine would really complement this steak dinner.  Definition: something that completes

9 Lose & Loose  Be sure to backup your assignment as you could lose the hardcopy.  The most common New Year’s resolution is to lose weight.  Definition: to misplace, get rid of, or not win  The physical training exercise will require loose clothing.  Define: not tight
