To recap… On a blank world map next to each continent without looking at your work from today name at least one hazard that the area is exposed to!
2
Learning Objectives K- To know a range of strategies to deal with global warming U- Understand the costs and benefits of these strategies S- Reflect upon the hazard risk equation and relate to reducing vulnerability in areas
3
So far this topic we have looked at the dangers and hazards of global warming- lets now look at what we can do to slow it all down! As we go through complete your A3 sheet!
4
1. Plant some trees Pros Sustainable and good for all- “think global, act local” Trees take in CO2 and fix it in the form of hydrocarbons. Cons In the 1 st 10 years of life a growing tree gives off more CO2 than it absorbs Some countries are using planting trees as a get out for using more gas emissions- double whammy!
5
2. Using renewable energy sources Pros Sustainable and good for all- “think global, act local” Release less CO2 Cons Can be expensive Some countries unsuitable for certain types of energy e.g. UK could not rely on Solar power
6
3. renewable energy schemes Pros Sustainable and good for all- “think global, act local” Release less CO2 Cons Often in remote areas people not skilled or educated enough Research other forms of renewable energy.
7
4. Community based Strategies Research examples of community based schemes and the pros and cons of these
8
5. Biofuels Like fossil fuels, the biomass fuels must be burnt in order for them to provide energy for use by humans Big advantage they are much cleaner source of energy. E.g. of biofuels Fuel wood Ethanol Oils extracted from soybeans Research bio-fuels
9
6. Nuclear
10
Task- to be finished for homework! Attempt Exam Question 4 and 5
11
To end…. Watch this short movie which summarises everything we have covered in this topic!
