2 The Rule Use a comma in between adjectives, if you can reverse them in a sentence. Use a comma in between adjectives, if you can reverse them in a sentence. What are adjectives? What are adjectives? Words that describe nouns. Words that describe nouns. EXAMPLE: The big dog ran down the street. The big dog ran down the street. The big dog ran down the street. *Note: In this sentence “big” describes the dog, so it is an adjective.

3 The Rule So, you will use the comma between two adjectives when you can reverse them in the sentence. So, you will use the comma between two adjectives when you can reverse them in the sentence.Example: The talented, young actor got the lead role in the movie. *Because I can reverse “talented” and “young”, a comma needs to be placed between them.

4 Practice 1.) The short gregarious man was extremely outgoing in a large crowd. Where does the comma go? The short, gregarious man was extremely outgoing in a large crowd.

5 Practice 2.) The incredibly handsome movie star got the lead role in the movie. Where does the comma go? The incredibly handsome movie star got the lead role in the movie. *In this case we do not need a comma! We cannot reverse “incredibly” and “handsome.”

6 Practice 3.) The beautiful blond model went to the beach with her friends. Where does the comma go? The beautiful, blond model went to the beach with her friends.

7 ON A ½ SHEET OF LINED PAPER CORRECT THE FOLLOWING SENTENCES 1.) The intelligent hard-working student received a good grade in English class. 2.) Studying is a terrifically beneficial skill to have. 3.) Musicians are highly talented people. 4.)The dedicated well-rounded athlete had a lot of playing time. 5.)The quick agile runner practices every day.
