A few fun facts… Because his tragedies involve so much death and evil, most people think Shakespeare was depressed and unhappy when he wrote them; however, Shakespeare actually wrote the tragedies while his finances were flourishing! The first performance of Macbeth occurred between 1603-1606, but it was not published until 1623. Shakespeare often acted in his own plays, but took mostly small roles. Shakespeare died on April 23, 1616, at age 52. A month before his death, Shakespeare revised his will, inserting the following phrase: “I gyve unto my wief my second best bed with the furniture (blankets).” This is the only time his wife is mentioned in his entire will. He left nearly all his remaining possessions to his daughter, Susanna.
