The Minneapolis Farmer’s Market The history of the Minneapolis Farmer’s Market goes back to 1876 when the first open air market opened in Minnesota on 1st Street and Hennepin Avenue. This market closed in 1891, but was quickly replaced by a new market located at 3rd Avenue North and 6th and 7th Streets. After losing this market in a fire in 1894 a replacement market was rebuilt in the same location. Due to increased participation in this open air market, there was demand for a larger space where the market could take place. History
