2 Approximately 1,800 babies are diagnosed with CP each year, especially in UK.

3 Cerebral Palsy is a neurological conditions. It largely affects brain and nervous system.

5 CP is a non-progression disorder of movement, muscle tone or posture that is caused by an insult to the immature, developing brain, most often before birth.

6 Signs and symptoms appear during infancy or preschool years, which is first 3 years of life.

7 There are three types of CP, such as:  Spastic cerebral palsy — causes stiffness and movement difficulties  Athetoid cerebral palsy — leads to involuntary and uncontrolled movements  Ataxic cerebral palsy — causes a disturbed sense of balance and depth perception

8 Causes  Infection in early pregnancy  A difficult or premature birth  Bleeding in the baby’s brain  Abnormal brain development in the baby

10  Epilepsy  Learning difficulties  Incontinence  Visual impairment  Hearing impairment  Difficulties speaking or understanding  Delayed growth  Curved spine (scoliosis)  Drooling  Difficulty with swallowing  Eye muscle imbalance.  Reduced range of motion at various joints of their bodies  Muscle stiffness

11 There is no cure for CP. A range of treatments can help relieve symptoms and increase a child's sense of independence and self-esteem. These include physiotherapy, occupational therapy and medication.
