4 Rational Software 1.Collaborative Application Lifecycle Management Jazz, Rational Team Concert This is the perfect single repository for both students & lecturers and is especially useful for final year projects. The Jazz server + RTC allows for change control, version control and is applicable for both.NET & eclipse-based products. For students that have to cobble together multiple open source tools, need to get their head around process, and want a single code repository, Jazz/RTC are the ideal tool. For lecturers, the dashboard allows them a simple view of the project. The fact that it's free for academic use makes it even better. 2.Quality Management & Testing products Rational Quality Manager, Rational Performance Tester & Functional Tester The Rational testing suite improves the students' software testing and quality management via collaboration, automation for greater productivity and consistency, and real-time analysis that ensures software functionality, reliability and performance in development. Performance Tester is used by Monash University in their Bachelor of Software Engineering course. 3.Architecture/Design/Construction Rational Software Architect & Rational Application Developer Model-driven development tools that afford a richer, more scalable, and more rigorously standards-conformant set of modelling capabilities. These are commercial offerings that extend the Open Source Eclipse technologies and are a consistent, well-known model for extending the products when customisations are needed. Rational Software Architect is used by Monash University.

5 IBM’s University Ambassadors The IBM University Ambassador program is a global volunteer community motivated to drive IT skills (hardware, software, and services) in support of the IBM Academic Initiative program worldwide University Ambassadors play a significant role as valuable volunteers who contribute their technology expertise, participate in guest speaking engagements, or help develop relationships with the college or university. University Ambassadors have a wide range of expertise and experience in the IT industry :  IT Specialists  IT Architects (Infrastructure, Network, Applications, Solutions, etc)  Project Managers  Business Development  Management  Sales University Ambassadors are often looking for opportunities to ‘give back’ to the community – and express an interest to get involved in a number of areas, including :  Guest Lectures (share their experience as a professional in IT industry, or cover a specific technical topic)  Mentoring (individuals or groups – typically around a final year project  Open Days (talks to students in Open Day events)  Industry Advisory Boards (sharing experience in industry)  Curriculum development  Research / Collaboration (specifically where the Ambassador has a specific interest in the research topic)  Adjunct roles (take an active role in teaching specific curriculum content) To find out more about IBM University Ambassadors in your area – contact John Schilt on 02 9463 5913 or email schiltj@au1.ibm.com
