AVID is a 4 year academic class that counts for elective credit AVID class (25-30 students) is taught by AVID-trained teachers This class offers students academic support for a rigorous curriculum. It exposes students to habits that are designed to support college readiness. It gives parents resources to support a student with a rigorous course schedule

Blue Valley Northwest High School Home of the HUSKIES! What is a tutorial? A tutorial is a small-group learning atmosphere designed to facilitate understanding of rigorous content. A tutorial is designed to help students not only understand tough content, but master it. Tutorials are facilitated by some of our best kids in the senior class. These students become valuable mentors for the freshman AVID students.

Many area colleges offer AVID specific scholarships Many area colleges seek out AVID graduates due to their increased college readiness What does the research say about the AVID program’s effect on AVID high school students? Marked improvement in standardized test scores Marked improvement in rigorous course enrollment Marked improvement in the completion of the four year college entry requirements Marked improvement in college attendance Marked improvement in college degree acquisition

What does the research say about the college readiness of BV students? 85% of 2013 BV graduates were enrolled in college within a year of graduation 63% of 2009 BV graduates have obtained a 2-year or 4-year college degree by the end of the 2014-2015 school year 11.3% of 2009 BV graduates were still enrolled in college by the end of the 2014- 2015 school year

Frequently Asked Questions: What if I want to do CAPS, Exploring Health Professions, Choir, Band, Orchestra, Cheer, Dazzlers, Debate, Husky Headlines, etc.? Can I still fit it in while doing AVID? What kind of kids are in AVID? I have been invited to interview for AVID, but I am not sure if it's a good fit for me. How do I know if I'm right for AVID? If I am selected for AVID, how do I adjust my schedule since I already enrolled? Blue Valley Northwest High School Home of the HUSKIES! Timeline: Initial AVID Info Meeting: Thursday, February 25 th at 6:30 pm in Little Theater at BVNW. March 9 : Application deadline (turn in to MS counselors or BVNW) Late March – Early April : interviews at the middle schools (do not stress!) Early May : letters and emails mailed regarding acceptance into AVID
