1 Purpose Hypothesis Method Data Analysis 1. Set up the timing system in the water. 2. Have your participant do a 10 minute warm up; a nice and easy 500 yard freestyle. 3. Once warmed up, have the participant get in the endurance swim suit. 4. Next, have the participant get on the blocks. 5. Make sure you have your timing system set up and ready to use 6. On your mark, the swimmer will take their mark and dive in the water swimming a 50 yard freestyle as fast as they can. 7. As this is going on you will be timing the swimmer once you say go until they complete the 50 yard freestyle. 8. After they complete the 50 free they will take a 30 minute break. 9. Once the 30 minutes is up have the swimmer get in the technology suit you give them. 10. Next, repeat steps 4-8 in the technology suit 3 times. 11. Once you have complete all three trials, put the times in your chart and you will do further calculations with them later. 12. Repeat steps 2-11 for all participants, making sure step 1 is still set up. Risk and Safety: Ensure that all swimmers are confident in swimming the desired 50 yards and have a life-guard present at all times. If Speedo technology swimsuits are the best, then when compared to Arena and Blu70 it will be the better due to the materials and design of the suit. I will infer this because Speedo created the LZR Racer, the suit that was banned, and because of their advanced technology they are able to create the best suit that is still legal according to FINA. My data supports this hypothesis. The purpose of the experiment, “Need for Speed: High Technology Suits”, was to figure out which technology swim suit is the overall best: Speedo, Arena, or Blu70. One-way ANOVA: An ANOVA one-way (unstacked) test was ran on data from the table that contained the difference in time from the endurance suit to the technology suit. The results that were calculated show that the variables were significantly better than the control. This is true because the P-value is below 0.05. Allowing myself to reject my null hypothesis that technology swimsuits don’t effect time change. The lower the box plot the better time difference it had verse the endurance suit. Materials A 25 yard swimming pool Endurance suit Participants Technology Suits A stop watch/ timing system A swim cap A towel Paper and pencil Raw Data Conclusion After conducting my Need for Speed experiment I found out that Speedo is the overall best swim suit over all the age groups. Within the girls data I found that Speedo is the best, with a 1.24% time change when wearing the technology swim suits; Blu70 1.12% and Arena 1.09%. Within the boys data I found that Speedo was the best with a 1.26% time change, and Arena and Blu70 tied with a 0.84% time change. Overall, boys and girls of all ages, I found that Speedo improves times by 1.25%, Blu70 1.03%, and Arena 0.97%.This conclusion can help swimmers and parents know which swim suit is the best for their swimmer to wear. Out of all the graphs we were able to fail to reject the null hypothesis stating that the technology swim suits do not create a change in times. All that p values are under.05.
