2 Arcturus The name derives from ancient Greek meaning Guardian of the Bear. Arabic: one of two stars called al-Simak (the uplifted one) Red, giant star w/ /1.46 magnitude 36.66 light years 4th Brightest star. RA: 14h15m DEC: 19O

3 Pollux “Castor and Pollux” according to Roman mythology. Zeus seduced Leda by disguising himself as a swan. Castor was born by King of Sparta, Pollux by Zeus. Castor died, Pollux wanted to join him in Hades, so Zeus was sympathetic and placed both in the sky. 17th Brightest star in the sky 33.7 light years “bright star” w/ luminosity 32 times that of the sun. The brightest star in the sky with a known planet orbiting it RA: 7h45m DEC: 28.1O

4 Orion The sun of Neptune with an amazon huntress as a mother. He became the world’s greatest hunter, became overly confident, and came to a tragic end when an itty-bitty scorpion stung him. Another version, he got a little too close with Diana, and Apollo in anger bet his sister that she couldn’t hit a distant target. She did and it turns out the target was Orion. He is in the sky as a hunter attacking a bull and can be identified by his belt of three large stars.

5 Orion Significant Objects
Two of the brightest stars: Rigel and Betelgeuse. Contains Messier 42: Orion Nebula (a diffuse emission/reflection)
