How to help your clients EVERY Student can receive Un-sub at the very least! Apply for FAFSA for that & scholarships possibilities EFC—Expected Family Contribution DOE software determines thru the FAFSA application Can be manually done at FA-Financial Aid
13
EFC/Special Conditions If you don’t agree with the award or the award estimate (This year with 12-1-16 deadline & Pell & BOR won’t know till March 2017) you can complete a special conditions form at FA Your income is greatest factor in calculating EFC—But savings also goes towards EFC— Examples? Students $10K—worse cause no expectation of mortgage, car payment, etc.
14
EFC/Special Conditions Inheritance treated just like parents savings for FAFSA DOE says student is a “dependent student” if they aren’t 24 years old, married, have (and support) a child, where emancipated or served on active duty Not Claiming a child on your taxes does not make them an independent for DOE/FAFSA
15
Questions from clients? Special conditions is change in income at the time of attending college. For each state there is/could be a priority deadline for FAFSA in Montana it’s now December 1 st. This gives the best chance for Pell, Work-study and “best” loans ?’s on interest rates of federal loans??
