Dave Newbold, University of Bristol21/3/2001 (Short) WP6 Update Where are we? Testbed 0 going (ish); some UK sites being tried out for production (mostly LHCb, CMS starting). Testbed 1 planning underway; debate currently raging Deliverable 6.1: Software integration process document Quarterly report due soon (late…) I need names of all those who have contributed to TB0 + beyond! Credit where credit is due! Not a lot of progress on organisation… but leaders are emerging. Meetings “April” WP6 meeting postponed until yesterday Excellent UK attendance, with important contributions

Dave Newbold, University of Bristol21/3/2001 Testbed 0 In the UK Several sites are ‘stable’ Others want to participate ‘Skeleton’ is now there to try interoperability tests Documentation is coming (if not from WP6, need UK docs) New ‘UK’ rpms out + UK-compatible INFN installation kit Does anyone want to try out INFN kit? Wider context Need to make sure other TB0 main sites can accept UK certificates Is this done? Need to get production GRID use onto the testbed if possible e.g. CMS still using GLOBUS certificates…

Dave Newbold, University of Bristol21/3/2001 Testbed 1 Software integration process http://marianne.in2p3.fr/datagrid/documents/protected/Testbed_S W_Integration http://marianne.in2p3.fr/datagrid/documents/protected/Testbed_S W_Integration A long and complex piece of work …but somewhat controversial from the PoV of other WP Testing + integration procedure is very rigorous, possibly unworkably complex ‘Offline discussion’ taking place Particularly at issue: simulators for middleware modules Requirements from other WP: Coming in now; seems practical to accommodate them Possible a more flexible approach needed for testing (e.g. WP2)

Dave Newbold, University of Bristol21/3/2001 Testbed 1 (cont) Some personal comments: Need a more lightweight approach More flexible scheduling leading up to big releases (but difficult – the cracks in the schedule are appearing) More flexible resource allocation for complex middleware tests (e.g. WP2) Need better documentation (ball is probably in our court) UK has responsibility for translation / vetting! Schedule: WP8 possibly to delay deliverable by 3 months Who will participate in TB1 integration from UK? Unfunded WP6 effort? What about support / packaging / GRID operations? Important that we are ready at PM9

Dave Newbold, University of Bristol21/3/2001 Comments on WP1-7 plans WP1-5,7,8 presentations yesterday Good, useful input Too many comments to relay here The experts are in the (virtual) room – talks coming up! A few things I picked up (no thanks to VRVS) WP8 schedule is impossible w.r.t that of WP6 Waiting on input from QA people on release procedure / config control What is the WP7 + WP5 situation in the UK? Authentication scheme is still a point of discussion? Some issues between WP4 / WP6 on installation Presentations are on the web

Dave Newbold, University of Bristol21/3/2001 Testbed + GridPP Probably not the time for a long discussion GridPP has ‘Grid Prototype’ + ‘Software Support’ WG’s These are really different aspects of a testbed: But ‘TB manager’ from DataGrid PoV maps more closely to SS SS being led by Andy McNab We must accommodate DataGrid TB plans + running experiments + data challenges + etc etc etc All have conflicting requirements Need a ‘flexibly partitionable’ Grid Prototype How to achieve integration? Read the GridPP proposal + comment to Andy McNab / me Turn up for the meeting on the 24 th to discuss Volunteer to make a contribution
