1.Using the website https://learnzillion.com/lesson_plans/8855-identify- quadrilaterals-based-on-attributes#fndtn-lesson, students will watch a video lesson explaining the types of quadrilaterals based on their attributes (number of right angles and congruent/parallel sides): square, rectangle, parallelogram, trapezoid, rhombus, & non-specific.https://learnzillion.com/lesson_plans/8855-identify- quadrilaterals-based-on-attributes#fndtn-lesson 2.Students will identify quadrilaterals by the number of right angles and congruent/parallel sides: 4 right angles, 2 sets of parallel sides, 1 set of parallel sides, 1 set of congruent sides, 2 sets of congruent sides. 3.Students draw and label the quadrilaterals on paper and turn it in with the identifying names on it. This task uses: Learning Objective(s): B. Classify two‐dimensional figures into categories based on their properties. 3. Understand that attributes belonging to a category of two‐dimensional figures also belong to all subcategories of that category. For example, all rectangles have four right angles and squares are rectangles, so all squares have four right angles. 4. Classify two‐dimensional figures in a hierarchy based on properties. 1.Working in small groups, students will use the Geoboard App to create their quadrilaterals instead of using the manipulative models. Students will identify their quadrilaterals based on their attributes (number of right angles and congruent/parallel sides): square, rectangle, parallelogram, trapezoid, rhombus, & non-specific. Students will write the names of the quadrilaterals on the Geoboard app and take a screenshot to be printed. Students will print their work to turn in. 2.Using the Math Pro App, each student will take a quiz on identifying properties of quadrilaterals which will give immediate feedback and offers a tutorial video. Identifying/Classifying Quadrilaterals 1.Working in small groups, students will classify the different types of quadrilaterals based on the number of right angles and congruent/parallel sides: square, rectangle, parallelogram, trapezoid, rhombus, & non-specific on the Geoboard app. Students will screenshot their Geoboard and print it out. 2.Students will compare and contrast the types of quadrilaterals from their print out to see if they could belong to another quadrilateral family. Using the website https://learnzillion.com/lesson_plans/5524-classify- quadrilaterals-by-looking-at-multiple-attributes#fndtn-lesson, students will view the video to check their work.https://learnzillion.com/lesson_plans/5524-classify- quadrilaterals-by-looking-at-multiple-attributes#fndtn-lesson 3.Students will create a video of their work using the Show Me App as they explain why the quadrilateral they have selected is classified the way that it is and how it may be classified as two separate quadrilaterals. Students will write on the screen as they record their explanations. 4.Students will save their video. 5.Students will share their video with another student in the classroom through the discussion board. This task uses: Learning Objective(s): B. Classify two‐dimensional figures into categories based on their properties. 3. Understand that attributes belonging to a category of two‐dimensional figures also belong to all subcategories of that category. Students will explain the different types of quadrilaterals by using 4 different students holding a rope and showing in the movie how the number of right angles and parallel/congruent sides are different. They will also explain how some quadrilaterals may belong to more than one family. 4.Students will download the movie on schooltube to be displayed for other schools to see.
