MAINTENANCE VS. TROUBLESHOOTING: EXAMPLES Computer Maintenance: Updating your operating system Updating your software programs (MS Word, PowerPoint, Photoshop, etc.) Updating your Internet browser Removing old programs Defragmenting the disk Computer Troubleshooting: Pressing Ctrl + Alt + Delete to end a task because the program is “frozen” Fixing a paper jam in a printer Replacing a printer cartridge Running anti-virus software

WHY ARE THEY IMPORTANT? Maintenance is important because it enables your computer to perform in the best manner possible. Without maintenance, your computer would run much more slowly than it would otherwise. Troubleshooting allows you to continue using your computer. When your computer or a program “freezes” you need to be able to effectively solve the problem so that you can complete your task.
