Aztec Hero John Anderson, Kayli Nordby, Graham Gesten, and Miles Maximillion Nordwall

Aztec The Aztec people dominated large sections of Mesoamerica from the 14th to 16th centuries. They spoke the language of Nahuatl. During the 13th century, the Aztec civilization was mainly based in the valley of Mexico(a highlands plateau in central Mexico. Their largest city and capital was Tenochtitlan, which was built on raised isles. The Aztecs conquered other city-states throughout Mesoamerica. Most of their army was characterized of training and basic military fields. Like the city-state of Sparta in Greece, each male had to go through basic military training from a young age. Warfare was the biggest force of the Aztec economy and religion.

Gods and Goddesses Tezcatlipoca became a jaguar and demolished the world. Quetzalcoatl created humans. Nanauatl became the sun. Ehecatl sacrificed the others. Huitzilopochtli was the warrior sun. Tonatiuh needed a blood sacrifice in order to win his battle against darkness. Xipe Totec was the god of the seasons. Tlaloc was the god of rain and water and was correlated with giving and sustenance of life. The Templo Mayor honored the Huitzilopochtli, the god of war, and Tlaloc, the god of rain and farming.

Hero’s Journey Quetzalcoatl was the creator and protector of human beings in Aztec civilization. The myth states that he introduced farming. He pretended to be a black ant and looted valuable grain from the red ants. He lectured people in astrology, countless crafts, calendar making, and he was the Patron of merchants. He departed from his civilization and gained knowledge and wisdom which restored his culture. He was thought to represent rattlesnakes and resplendent quetzals. He has many forms such as Ehecatl(the wind), Venus(a harpy eagle), and Nahuatl(the feathered serpent).
