ETHOS When writing, convincing your audience that you (the writer) are worth listening to; you have credibility. Make readers believe that you are an expert on the subject matter. How? Demonstrate a thorough knowledge on the subject. Speaking with a personal relationship to the subject. Demonstrating confidence, sincerity and honesty when writing By appealing to the ethics/character of your audience

Pathos Persuading your audience by appealing to their emotions Using IDEAS, appeal to the readers’ emotions such as empathy or fear How? Provide the audience with a scenario that incites strong feeling

Logos The logical way of looking at a topic Appeal to the person by using facts/figures, numbers, citations, and claims. How? Strong, clear claims Clear reasons for claims Strong evidence (facts, statistics, personal experience, expert authority, interviews, observations, anecdotes) Acknowledgement of the opposition
