An initiative of the ACZISC Supporting Integrated Coastal and Ocean Management (ICOM)

In a world of 1000 s of URLs and 100s of portals, how do you find the maps that you need for ICOM?

COINAtlantic Solution COINAtlantic Search Utility to effectively search, access and overlay information Data sources registered in and accessible via the GDP People providing authoritative and secure data sources / portals

7 Not a portal or a data warehouse – It doesn’t house any data. Not a metadata catalogue – The GeoConnections Discovery Portal (GDP) does that. Not a GIS or a refined mapping engine

8 COINAtlantic is a network that is one component of the Canadian Geospatial Data Infrastructure (CGDI). COINAtlantic uses:  The established GDP metadata catalogue  Established standards for map publishing (WMS / WFS)  Established Portals and data providers COINAtlantic provides a Utility that is accessible via common web browsers (Internet Explorer and Firefox)

9 Users COINAtlantic Search Utility via common web browsers People committed to sharing information

10 Help you find the information you need Help you see what information is available Help you combine information from many sources Help you share information with others Make information more useful

11 Search by text and geography Find any data registered on the GDP View available map images Overlay information from many sources – Land, coastal and marine – Federal, provincial, municipal, NGO, etc. Produce map images for publication in reports and other documents
