1 Creative Responses to e-waste problem at agbogbloshie Market.  To create the suitable design proposal we must first consider the POV statement, which is “A middle aged market woman, who is a single parent of four, who sells vegetables, NEEDS to safely make a living without endangering her health BECAUSE the activities of the scrap workers are slowly causing her health to deteriorate.”. From the POV statement a suitable solution must help the woman with her HEALTH and SALE of her goods.  As a group we came with two cost effective and practical proposals to help the market woman in relation to our POV statement. Group 10 (Cohort B) Owusu Kenneth Nana Adwoa Owusu Darko Benedict Quartey Eunice Adu Jennifer Saarkwah

2 MODIFIED ICE – CHESTS & A STORE HOUSE BUILT FROM MUD – HOUSE TECHNOLOGY The ice-chest has an in built ice compartment. This separates the vegetables from the ice, keeping them dry, but yet cool enough to remain fresh. The chest has insulating Styrofoam between the inner and outer plastic covers and this also keeps he temperature in the chest constant. To attract buyers, the market woman displays sample goods on her table, beside the chest. This way, her original goods on sale are not exposed to the pollutants. She is relieved of the burden of having to carry her goods to and fro, by storing them in a store house made of mud. The mud houses we designed are not only economical, but cool. This is because, the framework is made of wood, and the blocks are made up of a mixture of straw, clay, sand and a little bit of cement for strength and durability. Most importantly, we place an insulating material which for economical reasons is newspaper, in between the walls of the mud house, to maintain coolness. The roof is made of straw with asbestos for support.

3 RECYCLING & TREE PLANTING The trees around the market area will serve not only as a barrier, but also as a carbon sink which will absorb excess carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and replace it with oxygen. Another advantage of this proposal is that it promotes the general environmental awareness of saving trees Also, we realized that we could prevent air pollution and earn money at the same time. This can be done through using wire stripers instead of burning. Wire stripers are used to strip the plastic covering, off the copper wires. After finding the copper wires, the plastic part of the electronic device is recycled. Our aim of recycling is to find a use for everything considered as e-waste at Agbogbloshie. The cases of the computer monitors that are left lying about could be painted with beautiful designs and turned into flower pots. The plastic bottles, glass bottles and the plastic covering of the copper wires, could also be returned to recycling companies for a price. Extracted wires have a higher price on the market than the burnt wires. What's more? The wire stripers are actually cheap, durable and easy to use.
