Photo/TV POIWG Presentation Compact Flash Cards on ISS MISSION OPERATIONS DIRECTORATE EVA, ROBOTICS & CREW SYSTEMS OPERATIONS DIVISION CX46/S. Berenzweig 1/27/2015 Pre-decisional for NASA Internal Use Only

Summary Photo/TV Cards on Orbit –32GB Compact Flash Cards SEG33123675-301 QTY - 56 –32GB EVA Compact Flash Cards SEG33124502-301 QTY - 40 –4GB EVA Compact Flash Cards SEZ33120539-301 QTY – 48 –Compact Flash Card SDCFBI-1024-201-00 QTY – 1 for EVA IR Camera only Others have flown cards that may work in the Cameras but Photo/TV has no knowledge of the cards. (Size, Speed, Certification, or Compatibility with the Camcorders and Cameras) 2 Pre-decisional for NASA Internal Use Only

Usage Each crew manages the cards slightly differently Typically there are three types of bags onboard (there may be more than one of each type of bag) –Ready to be used –Ready to downlink –Do not erase 32GB cards can be used in both the XF305 Camcorders and D4 Cameras 4GB Cards cannot be used in the XF305 Camcorders –Most of these are currently stowed. –Disposal is planned this year. Only the cards with EVA in the nomenclature can go EVA Crew uses the 32GB interchangeably and should not be specified by part number. 3 Pre-decisional for NASA Internal Use Only

Downlink of Imagery Crew uses the Imagery Transfer Tool to downlink imagery to the ‘For Downlink’ folders on the SSCs The ‘For Downlink’ folders are on either the D: or U: drives according to SSC and the Imagery Transfer Tool is configured accordingly All imagery should be transferred with the Imagery Transfer Tool to these drives Some payloads hold cards until the PI confirms the imagery is received (CFE, RODENT). –Imagery is the science –Card s/n or b/c was reported in the downlink file name (32GB EVA Compact Flash cards have no s/n on the label) –Payloads calls up when a card is releasable –There should be a time limit on how long a card can be held so that if the crew finds a card that has been held longer the crew does not need to ask if they can use the card again (P/TV suggests 20 days) 4 Pre-decisional for NASA Internal Use Only
5
Downlink of Imagery cont. Corrupt Imagery –Very rare but some have been reported recently (IMAX and long time lapse imagery) –Recent bad files have ONLY been part of very large downlinks of time lapse imagery when the entire card is basically full –Appears to be happening when the files are transferred from the card to the SSC –Currently being investigated –A ‘check sum’ is being added to the Imagery Transfer Tool 5 Pre-decisional for NASA Internal Use Only
