Speech/Voice Outcomes: 1. Demonstrate vocal relaxation and warmup techniques. 2. Recognize how the jaw, lips, tongue, teeth and velum play an important role in articulation. 3. Demonstrate knowledge of the terms pitch, projection, rate, volume, rhythm, resonance, pausing and phrasing in speech. 4. Use and practise levels of pitch. 5. Demonstrate safe and appropriate projection. 6. Demonstrate how phrasing and pausing, intonation, rate and rhythm affect meaning. 7. Create specific vocal sound effects. 8. Speak spontaneously within a given context. 9. Demonstrate effective narrative techniques.

Tarzan Song Tarzan, Was swinging from a rubber band, Crashed into a frying pan, Now Tarzan Has a tan. Jane, Was flying in an areoplane, Crashed into a freeway lane, Now Jane has a pain, Now Tarzan has a tan. Cheeta, Was dancing to the beata, Crashed into the streeta, Now Cheeta is Velveta, Now Jane has a pain, Now Tarzan has a tan. Tiff, Was going out wih Biff, Tiff took a whif of Biff, Now Tiff doesn't like Biff, Now cheeta is Velveta, Now Jane has a pain, Now Tarzan has a tan. Shamu, Was swimming in the ocean blue, Crashed into a red canoe, Now Shamu's gonna sue, Now Tiff doesn't like Biff, Now cheeta is Velveta, Now Jane has a pain, Now Tarzan has a tan.

Day 3 – Thursday, October 27th What we’re doing today… 1. Tongue Twister of the day 2. Pass the Phrase 3. Talk or Die 4. Honda Commercial Beat Boxing 5. WLIIA – Sound FX 6. Play Sound FX 7. Scripts/Small Ensembles What we will learn… 1. Create specific vocal sound affects 5. Demonstrate safe and appropriate projection. 9. Demonstrate effective narrative techniques.

Pass the phrase… I feel good. What are you looking at. What, you like beef.

Talk or die… Three students are picked to tell a story together. Another student is picked to be the pointer, who points at one student at a time. The three actors must keep speaking about a topic chosen by the audience until the Pointer points to another student. The Pointer can switch storytellers mid-word. If the new speaker isn’t paying close attention, the Pointer and the audience shout, “die”. Then the actor who messed up must perform a brief death scene of his own choosing: jumping off a cliff, drinking poison, running out into traffic, etc. There are three ways to mess up: pause too long, repeat something already said, or go totally off the track/story.
