Good nutrition from the start! Newborns feel the effects of our eating habits even before they are born! –Implications? The rate of growth and development during the first year of life are more rapid than any other period in life (Allen & Marotz, 2007) –Implications?

ECP’s Role in Infant Feeding Bottle feedings (whether breast milk or formula) –preparations –Schedule –Amounts –Positioning and Social interaction Solids (what and when to introduce) –Developmental and physiological readiness –Follow instructions from family (and pediatrician) –Pay attention to their cues for hunger and satiety! Unit 6 Project It is really important to make children aware of healthy choices to make when it comes to food. There are many delicious snacks and meals for young children that can give them the nutrients necessary for their growth and development. There are many advertisements that portray not so healthy snacks to be wonderful for children. It is important that healthier snacks are advertised as well. This project will give you two opportunities to encourage children to make these healthy choices.

Unit 6 Project Part 1 1) You are going to be create an advertisement – –*Please feel free to be as creative as possible, but make sure to cite your sources. If you use clip art, using the pictures from Microsoft Word is the best choice – –**If you click on the circles on the top of the flyer, you can add clip art to make the flyer more attractive.

Unit 6 Project Part 2 You'll finish creating a 5-day menu for the age group of your choice. Your menu will include alternative choices for children with wheat and nut allergies and for vegetarian children. The menu you create will be based on the USDA Food Guide Pyramid for children. Your menu will be created by filling out the form provided and submitting the form by the end of Unit 6. Read Chapter 19 of your text, pp. 448-473, for information on creating your own original menu.
