Tuesday 3/4/2014 Speed = Distance / Time Answer using the griddable 1.If a roly poly sped at a 15cm in 30 minutes, what would be its average speed in cm/hr? 2.A car is traveling at an average speed of 66 mph. How far did the car travel in 1.5 hours?

SUNRISE … SUNSET Sunrise in North Richland Hills on 3/3 was at 6:54 am and sunset at 6:28pm. Sunrise in NRH on 3/4 was 6:53 am and sunset will be at 6:28pm. How can this be explained? Weather Report

Now…. Gravity Review 1.What is gravity? 2.Why is the Sun at the center of our solar system? 3.What is Newton’s Law of Universal Gravitation?
7
GRAVITY IS NOT THE SAME AS MAGNETISM
10
If All Things Attract each Other, Why Does the Moon Orbit Earth instead of the Sun? Strength of Gravity Depends on: 1.Size 2.Distance

COOOOL MOOOON FACTS Earth’s closest companion and travels with Earth around the Sun Gray desert, appears dark gray cause reflects 12% of sunlight that hits it Dark colored regions called maria (Latin for seas) Light colored areas are highlands Moon rocks from maria 3.2 – 3.7 billion years old Rocks from lunar highlands 4.4 billion years old Craters formed from meteorites striking surface Contains useful amounts of metals like, aluminum, iron, titanium, and magnesium No air, no clouds No erosion so unchanged for millions of years Rotates on axis once every 27.3 days Revolves around Earth once every 27.3 days

LUNAR CYCLE The lunar cycle is the change in the amount of light reflected off of the moon that can be seen on Earth Lunar Cycle caused by: – Light from the Sun – The moon’s orbit around Earth
15
The phases of the moon are NOT caused by the shadow of the Earth falling on the moon.

1. Which Moon phase do you believe should be the starting place when discussing the Lunar Cycle? Briefly explain your answer. 2. What does the moon appear to be doing when it is Waxing? 3. What does the moon appear to be doing when it is Waning? 4. How Would the Lunar Cycle change If you were viewing it from Australia?
30
1. ✓ This answer can vary between a Full Moon, New Moon, or Waxing Crescent -- sound reasoning. 2. ✓ The Moon appears to be getting larger as it waxes since it is moving towards a full moon. 3. ✓ The Moon appears to be shrinking as it wanes towards the “New Moon.” 4. ✓ The Cycle wouldn’t change; just when you were seeing it.

Science Journals – 2-27-14 1.During a full moon, the side of the Moon facing Earth is completely lit by the Sun and the Moon is located at its farthest point away from the Sun. During a new moon, the side of the Moon facing Earth is not reflecting any sunlight and the Moon is located at its closest point towards the Sun. 2.If the Moon absorbed rather than reflected the sunlight, no Moon phases would be visible, and a lunar cycle would also not be visible.
