2. Dear Parents, We warmly welcome your child to Grade One. We are looking forward to a successful year. To ensure this is successful it will be of benefit for you to have some information about first grade. This presentation outlines important factors about the curriculum. 3. 3 Use of Promethean Boards The Promethean Activboard was designed by teachers, for teachers, to transform the classroom into a truly interactive learning environment. Around the world interactive whiteboards are transforming classrooms into vibrant, welcoming environments where students are granted the freedom to learn like they think. Interactive whiteboards enable anything that can be seen or done on a computer screen to be projected onto a whiteboard.

4. Literacy Blocks  Teaching handwriting, reading, creative writing and spelling skills  Literacy rotations - guided reading, independent reading, sight words, letter recognition, listening skills, following instructions. Big Write.

5. Maths Abacus Evolve UK’s number one math program. Makes learning math fun for children. Encourages children to be creative with lots of hands on activities. Interactive teaching resources. Caters for varying ability levels. Engages students.

7. Social Studies  Themed based  To learn and understand about the world at their own level.

8. PSHCE Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship Education (PSHCE). Studying PSHCE helps all students develop as individuals in a wider society. Students learn to understand themselves physically, emotionally, socially and to understand their relationships with others.

9. Homework  It is VERY IMPORTANT to take the time to read with your child everyday.  Bring home reader back to school each day to change books.  Math homework once a week.  Spelling homework every Sunday and the students will be tested on Thursdays.

10. Uniform hat all uniform, PE kits, folders, bags and are clearly named. Children can come to school and go home in their PE kit on their PE day. Please ensure that your child wears the correct uniform and shoes at all times. They should wear P.E. Kit on P.E. days. All items of uniform, including P.E. kit and swimming kit need to be labelled.

11. Snacks and Lunches  We are trying to encourage children to bring healthy snacks and lunches to school. Therefore, we request that you please pack a lunch which is nutritious and healthy, with a good balance of fruits and vegetables.

12. Behaviour Management  Traffic light system used in all classes  We always focus on positive attitude, language and modelling correct behaviour.

13. Parent Helpers  Reading in the morning.  Math activities.  Field trips/visits.  We are ALWAYS appreciative of your help (little or lots).

14. Communication Please note that a major form of communication from the teacher will be by email. Therefore, it is vital that we have your correct email address.
