2 Tonight’s Agenda Project Orientation (20-30 minutes) –Introductions of Project Team –County Projects in the Ranchos –Avenue 12 Improvement Timeline * “Walkabout” Design Your Ideal Ave. 12 Exercise (90 minute interactive workshop) –Land Use and Transportation Input –Design your “ideal” Avenue 12 with maps & markers –Review last week’s results

5 Avenue 12 Bypass Meetings held to discuss how to handle traffic increases in the Ranchos (Winter 2008 – Spring 2009) Majority of community favored the Bypass option

8 Focus on the core of the Ranchos *Envision the Ranchos with a Bypass

9 Community-based Planning Grant County was awarded a $147,813 community- based planning grant Addresses existing Ave. 12 in town (2 mile stretch) Program Goal: –Integration of land use and transportation planning with community values so “livable” communities are realized.

10 Full-scope Look at the Core of the Ranchos To address the planning needs of the Madera Ranchos community core –Many issues yet to be addressed Moving people vs. moving cars Land uses (commercial, residential, institutional) Recreation Drainage Landscaping, lighting, etc… –With a bypass removing regional traffic, must ensure sustainability of the Ranchos: Local preferences Economic vitality

11 What is a Plan Good For? This project will produce a Plan for the future of the Ranchos core, with suggestions for implementation A community-driven tool to attract State and Federal grant monies

12 What is the Enhancement Plan? Three Steps to Forming the Plan: 1. Visioning Community input – the base of the Plan Build the community’s vision of the Ranchos Input informs Cal Poly’s design work and final Plan 2. Transportation Plan (Revisit Vision in detail) Addresses traffic issues Provide technical basis for the Plan 3. Corridor Redesign (Revisit Vision in detail) Building design along Ave. 12 Streetscape design

14 Baseline Avenue 12 for Vision *Build tonight from the following key factors: Bypass will re-direct regional commuter and truck traffic Avenue 12 with sidewalk improvements –Sidewalks on both sides –Turning lane in center –Six foot shoulder
