3 Through a Compassionate Lens  Librarian Lisa Raney curated a photo exhibit based on the Linnell Camp migrants. This is currently on display on the second floor of the Visalia Library near the history room.

4 War Comes Home  A CalHumanities Grant, War Comes Home, brings best-selling author Karl Marlantes to Visalia. His book What it is Like to Go to War is a memoir of his experiences in Vietnam.  There are several other programs in October including computer classes for veterans, a veterans assistance forum, and more.

5 Visalia Teens  Starting planning for summer reading 2015  Planned a Read-a- thon fundraiser for November  Had a college counselor visit to answer their college questions

6 Adult Literacy  Literacy Coordinator Sue Gillison helps celebrate California Library Literacy Services 30 th anniversary celebration.

8 Alpaugh Branch- September 2014  This Month marked the end of the Read-2-Ride, overall we had a good turn out in the amount of summaries turned in by kids.  Kids were really excited about this months crafts.  Week1: They decorated notebooks with duct tape.  Week 2: They decorated their clipboard.  Week 3: They did a hanging letter out of buttons.  Week 4: They made paper plate owls.

9 DINUBA BRANCH – SEP. 2014  Small groups of adults continue to enjoy the monthly Adult Book Club.  The older boys enjoy the variety of board games as they take a break from their school work in the afternoons.  Tuesday afterschool crafts are a fun, noisy, and busy time for lots of kids who look forward to these every week.

10 Earlimart- September 2014  Busy month, lots of kids come after school.  Our afternoon movie has become popular among the children and parents.  have received a lot of positive feedback about our different activities from parents.

11 EXETER BRANCH September 2014  Everyone is back in School and  computers are being used,  holds are being placed, books  are being checked out and  people are staying cool at the  local library!  Children are playing board  games, reading, doing crafts,  watching movies and playing  the Wii Games.  The crafts for this month were a big  hit with Spiral Binders, Clip Board decorating and Monogram craft! 12 IVANHOE SEPTEMBER 2014  We are having fun playing a game I came up with called, “Be a Buddy not a Bully” and we continue to go over the concepts weekly. Prizes will be given out Oct 30  Girls and boys have shown up for “Family Movie” now on Tues, Wii on Wed., and Crafts on Thurs. We have had 11 kids for crafts all month and expecting more new ones to join.  I’m getting to know some of the teens here again. I’m recruiting for a “Teen Club” and have four names and numbers so far.

13 Lindsay Branch Library September 2014 The kids are back in school, but there are still many reasons to visit the library.  Computers  Reference material  Free DVDs  Fun crafts People are using computers for homework, job applications and recreation. And they are enjoying the free DVDs and craft activities.

14 Orosi Branch September 2014  With everyone settled into their fall semester, things have calmed down in one way, bringing many back in to the library. The duct tape craft is very popular, esp. with teens!  There’s a lot of excitement about autumn contests (pumpkin contest) as well as all of the upcoming owl crafts!  New families are enjoying the resources at the library, many new library cards issued in September, we’re seeing more older kids than ever, and the reference questions have increased in a number that’s unparalleled.

15 Pixley Branch Library September 2014  44 class visits kept us busy all month long.  Crafts in the Library have began and some of Pixley Elementary’s ASES (After School Education and Saftey) Program students had the opportunity to create some cool back to school gear.

16 SPRINGVILLE BRANCH LIBRARY SEPTEMBER 2014  Springville children are preparing for their science fair projects.  The Tulare County Fair tickets for free rides were enjoyed by kids and parents!  Monthly after-school crafts included monogramed art projects, adorned note books & slates and festive owls decorations. 

18 Three Rivers Branch Library September 2014  Something For Everyone At Your Local Library  Post story time naps with favorite reading buddy  Lots of crafty fun  Spiral binders  Decorated clipboards  Hanging letter button craft  Owls, Owls, Owls paper plate Owls  Educational Community Programs “Monarchs & Milkweeds“-  A talk and slide show on Monarch butterflies,  Caterpillars, chrysalides, and milkweeds presented by  Marcia Goldstein and Carole Clum.

19 Tipton Branch-September 2014  Read-2-Ride ended September 12, we had many tweens who participated in this activity.  Duct tape activities continue to attract kids.  We had many great crafts this month such as: decorating notebook, decorating clipboard, hanging letter made out of button and per owls.  Next month we have prepared many Halloween activities that kids will love.

21 Updates  Amanda Grombly was promoted to the Visalia Library Manager position.  Library Assistant Positions are being filled.  The Dinuba Library Manager and the Electronic Resources Librarian positions are currently open.  Strathmore Library renovation is underway  Exeter Fundraising Planned at Fall Festival in Exeter with new Friends of the Library.
