3 NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF OCEANOGRAPHY Thatta Sonmiani Gwadar ESTABLISHMENT Established under resolution No. F. 5(10)/82-ST. V/NIO dated 20 May 1982 as an autonomous body. Later, in May 2007, an Act (Act III of 2007) for establishment of NIO was passed by the Parliament. Main laboratories and office are located at Clifton Karachi with three sub-stations, at Gwadar, Sonmiani and Ghora Bari. 3 NIOPK - 27 July 2011

13 The effective flow of data and information from the collectors to the users.  Receive data from researchers then performing quality control, archiving and disseminating it on request.  Receiving data from buoys, ships and satellite.  Development and establishment of data management system to support major experiments etc.  Processing and publishing data on the internet and on CD-ROMS  Developing standards for data documentation and processing  Publishing graphic reports  Participating in international oceanographic data and information exchange

14 World Data Center WDC It receives oceanographic data and inventories from: NODCs & RNODCs Marine Science Organization Individual scientists There are three World data Centers (Oceanography): WDC-A : USA WDC-B: Russian Federation WDC-D: China

20 Oceanographic Research Library The Library of National Institute of Oceanography Pakistan, dedicated to the founder of the institutes Dr. G. S. Qureshi (late) and it was established in 1981. The NIO Library provide the facility to the researchers and students of marine sciences and scientists to get information through printed materials related to ocean science.

Appropriate Fire extinguishers and Smoke alarm system is not available. Airconditioning system is not available. Reading room for the users is not available. Lake of System Controler R/Humidity Temperature. Lake of shelves for proper placing of books. Lake of equipment, such as Photocopier, Scanner, Digital Camera.
