1 Contents Insurance How to work out your Sums Insured Your home and it’s contents are probably your most valuable assets and you need to be sure that they are adequately insured. This guide will assist you in calculating your contents sum insured. Your policy will replace property as new (except household linen, clothing and pedal cycles, where we will take off an amount for wear and tear). In the event of a claim if your sum insured on your schedule is less than the cost of replacing all the contents as new, (less an amount we take off for wear and tear on household linen, clothing and pedal cycles), we will only pay for part of the loss or damage. Therefore you need to make sure your sum insured adequately covers the replacement cost of your contents. You should also be aware that there may be special limits under your policy for certain items. Please refer to your policy booklet and schedule for details of these. If the sum insured you calculate exceeds any such limits please inform your insurance adviser or Tower Insurance. The value of items such as jewellery often fluctuates independently of inflation. You should therefore regularly value these items, to ensure that their full value is insured. Remember to keep your insurance up-to-date by informing your insurance adviser or Tower Insurance when new articles are acquired. The checklist on the following page will help you to work out the sum insured for your contents inside your home. If you require cover for any items outside your home please refer to the All Risks section on the back page of this leaflet Contents Checklist The following checklist will help you to work out your contents sum insured.
