Maldives Introduction The republic of maldives (formerly called maldives islands, April,1969) is located in South Asia, instead of the Indian Ocean on an island by 1200 small coral islands, including 202 are inhabited. The Maldivian archipelag is a beautiful string of so many low-lying coral islands scattered across the equator in the vast expanse of the Indian Ocean, giving a rare glimpse of what is aptly described as a tropical paradise.
