Climate Due to its northern location, Canada has cool to freezing temperatures year round. Central and Northern Canada: sub arctic climate Pacific coast- rainy winters with mild temperatures

Much of Canada’s land is covered in ice or tundra leaving only a small portion available for agriculture. Tundra- an area where the tree growth is restricted by low temperatures and a short growing season.

Historically Significant Events Seven Years War (1754-1763) (This is called the French and Indian war in the US) War fought between Great Britain and its two enemies, the French and the Indians of North America. Most of the battles were in Canada. American colonists, including George Washington, fought with the British in this war, which lasted from 1754 to 1763. The British won the war and won the right to keep Canada and several other possessions in the New World.

Historically Significant Events Dominion of Canada was created in 1867 A long time ago, Canada belonged to Great Britain. Over time, parts of the country joined together and wanted to form their own government. On July 1, 1867, the British government (under Queen Victoria) approved a plan which allowed Canada to become an independent country with its own government. This new nation, which remained loyal to Britain, was called the Dominion of Canada. At that time, the new Dominion of Canada had only four provinces (Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick). These days, there are 10 provinces and 3 territories.

Culture in Canada Canada is bi-lingual. French and English are official languages. Due to its size and diversity, citizens of Canada identify themselves by their ethnic culture rather than their nationality.
