4. INTRODUCTION Everyone has a general idea what mixing means. But describing this is not so easy. The goal of any mixing process is to distribute materials with different characteristics, and usually in differing quantities, as evenly as possible. A new homogeneous material with different properties results. Ribbon Blender comprises of a U-shaped horizontal trough and a specially designed Double Helical Ribbon Agitator rotating within. Ribbon Blenders are based on a proven agitator construction that provides a triple mixing action ensuring fast, efficient blending. The dimensions and configuration of the ribbons are carefully balanced to provide a movement of material within the container that avoids dead spots and gives rapid product discharge. An alternate design is the paddle agitator. The paddles are positioned to move the material in opposing lateral directions as well as radially. The paddle design is generally employed where friable materials are being blended, and when batches as small as 15% of the total capacity are going to be mixed in the blender.

6. WORKING Working Principle: The horizontal axes make the materials move up and down. The outer ribbon gathering the material from sides to center and the inner ribbon pushing the material from center to sides. Every screw makes the materials do axial and radial movement, the materials do relative cyclical movement so to gain the intensive mixings ends.

7. APPLICATIONS Ribbon blenders can be designed to operate in both batch and continuous modes. Batch type blenders can be built up to capacities of 50 m 3. The ribbon blender’s versatility for blending solids combined with it ability to perform heating, cooling, coating, and other processes make it a very popular blender. The following are the applications of the Ribbon Blender: Blending large volumes of dry solids. Dry powder to wet phase mixing. Mixing of bulk drugs, chemicals, and cosmetic powders. Coating solid particles with small amounts of liquids to produce formulations
