American College of Chest Physicians 2012 Spring Leadership Meeting BUILDING LEADERS Leadership skills… General membership and especially those in private practice As a college, it is our responsibility to inculcate leadership skills in our general membership Such skills will equip our members to assume leadership positions in their hospitals and areas of influence

American College of Chest Physicians 2012 Spring Leadership Meeting BUILDING LEADERS Leadership skills… Newly selected leaders of the college Pressing need surfaced when nominations were being considered Several new leaders unaware of what was expected of them Their evaluations indicated delinquencies in participation in board meetings and conference calls

American College of Chest Physicians 2012 Spring Leadership Meeting BUILDING LEADERS Perceived as lack of interest Recommended that these individuals be replaced A very different story from these members: – No formal orientation for their committee assignments – Not aware of what was expected of them – Not being acquainted with many colleagues on the conference calls – not well-versed with the issues being discussed as most Leadership skills… Newly selected leaders of the college …..

College: strive to instill in our members, the ability to acts as agents of change and to inspire and mentor others to rise to their fullest potential.
