THIS AFTERNOON… Look briefly at the new Maths curriculum (content and changes) Look briefly at the programme of study for Reception, KS1 and KS2 Have a go! Explore the resources provided Have the opportunity to ask questions about how maths is taught at Mapperley (and I’ll do my best to answer them!) And finally…a really hard maths test! Not really but there is an evaluation sheet which I would very much appreciate you filling in!

WHY IS MATHEMATICS IMPORTANT? THE NATIONAL CURRICULUM FOR MATHEMATICS AIMS TO ENSURE THAT ALL PUPILS: Become fluent in the fundamentals of mathematics… Reason mathematically by following a line of enquiry… Can solve problems by applying their mathematics in a variety of contexts…

BRIEF OUTLINE… In… Larger numbers earlier Tables to 12x12 by end of Year 4 Earlier introduction to formal written methods Focus on fractions Focus on problem solving Out… No data handling in Year 1 No probability until end of KS2 No use of calculators until the end of KS2

ENOUGH OF ME...NOW IT’S YOUR TURN! On the tables I have set out various resources covering different aspects within the maths curriculum. They have been divided into 4 categories-Early Years, KS1, Lower KS2 and Upper KS2. There are examples to look at and paper and pencils if you want to have a go! This is also question time, so please ask if there is anything in particular you would like to know
